Long-awaited ceasefire in Gaza Strip takes effect

Bangabarta Bureau:
Although slightly delayed, the long-awaited ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, took effect on Sunday. Qatar, one of the mediators of the ceasefire agreement, confirmed this. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had warned of war again a few hours before the ceasefire began after Hamas did not provide a list of hostages. He claimed that Hamas had started breaking the terms even before the ceasefire began.
The names of three prisoners who will be released were announced despite the fact that there were ‘technical problems’ in publishing the list of names of potential prisoners to be released in accordance with the terms of the ceasefire agreement. According to the agreement, the ceasefire was supposed to take effect in Gaza this Sunday morning local time, but it took effect after a few hours of delay.
After 15 months of bloody fighting in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, the ceasefire finally came into effect. On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked southern Israel. The attack killed about 1,200 people and captured 251. Israel then launched an offensive. Hamas is believed to still be holding 94 people. Of these, 34 are believed to have been killed. On the other hand, more than 46,000 residents of Gaza have been killed in the Israeli attack. The deal will allow hundreds of thousands of displaced people in Gaza to return to their homes.
