Bangabarta Bureau:
Finally, the video sharing app TikTok has been banned in the United States. America had already decided to ban the Chinese social media app TikTok from January 19. Accordingly, the video sharing app was banned on Sunday. When you enter the app, a pop-up appears: ‘We are sorry. TikTok is currently inactive in the United States. That is, unfortunately, you cannot use TikTok now.’
But why is TikTok banned? The US administration has accused this app, owned by ByteDance, of being a risk to national security. TikTok was banned in India on June 29, 2020. The administration also banned 58 other apps. The reason cited was misuse of information and espionage. In addition to India, TikTok has been banned in countries such as Senegal, Nepal, and Taiwan. According to the law, the ban on the company was supposed to take effect in the United States if it did not sell its ownership of TikTok by January 19. However, ByteDance also believes that a solution may be found to restore TikTok if the newly elected President Trump takes office.
