Farmers To Resume March To Delhi Today

Farmers’ protests continue on the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu border over various demands. Farmers will again march from the Shambhu border towards Delhi today. According to farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher, a group of 101 farmers will march towards Delhi at 12 noon today. The administration has beefed up security in the area for the farmers’ procession. Farmers are protesting with their multiple demands. Earlier, they tried to take out a procession to Delhi on Friday, but after clashes with the police, the farmers could not proceed further. Then the farmers held a meeting. After the meeting, it was announced that Saturday’s Delhi procession would be postponed. The farmers also expressed their desire to talk to the government. The farmers said that they have time till Saturday to talk to the government. If there is no discussion in the meantime, the farmers will take out a procession to Delhi on Sunday. Farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar said that when the farmers tried to go to Delhi, the police stopped them on Friday and lobbed tear gas shells at them. Due to this, some farmers were also injured. Describing it as a violation of democratic rights, he alleged that farmers should have the right to protest peacefully. But, they are not being allowed to protest in Delhi. Abhimanyu Kohar alleged that this movement is peaceful and farmers should be given the right to protest peacefully. He said that a fast to death was announced on November 26. At that time, it was said that if the demands of the farmers were not met within 10 days, a group of 100 farmers would leave for Delhi from Shambhu border on December 6. However, it was stopped that day due to police action. The farmer leader said angrily that India is called the largest democracy in the world. However, in this democracy, the largest part of the country, i.e. farmers, is not even given a place to protest peacefully in Delhi. This is a violation of democratic rights and the constitutional institutions of the country should look into this matter.
