22nd December , 2024 Kolkata: Kolkata is home to the Oldest Operating Port in India and yet again citizens get to explore the very origin of Kolkata as we know it today with PORTATHON 2.0- The Kolkata Port Run at St Thomas School, Kidderpore.
PORTATHON aims to bridge this gap quite literally as participants get to run over the curvy 4.4 Km stretch of Garden Reach Flyover, the unique Bascule Bridge – Nazrul Setu, that splits open even today to let ships pass through and under the Vidyasagar Setu – Second Hooghly Bridge, giving the participants a unique, unexplored and panoramically picturesque trail.
This year we have introduced the 21km run (Half Marathon) along with 14km & 7km runs.
PORTATHON also aims to bring together participants from various sections of society including Visually impaired, Paralympians, Children from red light area, various runners groups apart from common participants.
We also see participation from army personnels, schools, colleges, universities, women associations & sports institutes.
The event was organised by Ms. Priyadarshini Hakim who is a political worker & social activist. She is associated with various such flagship events in the city of Kolkata like All Womens’ Daawat-e-Iftaar, Womens’ Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Drives (Proti Mashe Protima Shey) and many more.
Flagging off the run was done by Mr Firhad Hakim (Hon’ble Mayor of Kolkata) & Mr Manoj Verma IPS (Commissioner – Kolkata Police) who participated in the 7K run himself.
Hon. MP & Former Member of Indian Cricket Team – Yusuf Pathan joined the event to boost the morale of the participants & lend support.
