Zelensky Rejects Putin’s Peace Talks, Cites Distrust of Motives

KYIV, UKRAINE

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has outright rejected the possibility of peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, citing deep suspicion of Putin’s intentions. Zelenskyy’s statement comes amid renewed diplomatic overtures from the Kremlin, which he has dismissed as a “political stunt.”

Speaking publicly, Zelenskyy expressed a lack of faith in Putin, stating that he doubts the sincerity of any peace proposal from Moscow. The Ukrainian leader has consistently maintained that Russia is not genuinely interested in ending the war and is instead using calls for dialogue as a ruse to buy time and regroup its forces.

The rejection of talks highlights the deep chasm of distrust that separates the two leaders and underscores the difficulty of finding a diplomatic solution to the ongoing conflict. Zelenskyy has repeatedly called for a full withdrawal of Russian troops and a restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity as a precondition for any meaningful negotiations.
