In a major boost to India’s defense indigenization efforts, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is set to deliver the first two indigenous Tejas Mk-1A fighter jets to the Indian Air Force (IAF) in October.

HAL CMD Dr. K. Sunil confirmed the development, stating, “Ten aircraft are ready.” He also announced a significant milestone in the program. “This week, the crucial test firing of bombs along with Astra and ASRAAM missiles was completed,” he said.

Dr. Sunil also announced that the first flight of the Mk-1A had been completed successfully, calling it a “historic milestone in the indigenous fighter aircraft program.”

The Tejas Mk-1A is an advanced variant of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, with upgraded avionics, radar, and electronic warfare capabilities. The delivery of these jets will significantly enhance the IAF’s combat readiness and self-reliance in military aviation
