Trump Raises Concerns Over South Korean Investigations

Washington, Bangobarta Bureau

President Donald Trump today stated that he was seeking information about investigations in South Korea, which he claimed have involved “raids on churches” and even a U.S. military base.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said he had heard “bad things” and that South Korea’s new government had conducted “very vicious raids on churches.” He added, “they even went into our military base and got information. They probably shouldn’t have done that.” Trump did not provide specific details on the intelligence he received, noting that he was still “finding out” if the reports were true.

The comments came just before his scheduled meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung. The remarks have created a tense backdrop for the bilateral talks, which are expected to cover trade and defense issues. South Korean authorities have clarified that a search warrant was served on the South Korean part of a jointly operated military base, but the investigation was limited to the South Korean military’s operations and did not involve U.S. personnel or materials
