Another tourist dies while visiting Sandakphu. The death of a tourist in a row has created a sensation in Shailshahar. The role of the police administration is again under question. The tourism community is worried due to the repeated deaths of tourists. According to police sources, the name of the deceased is Ankita Ghosh (28). She is a resident of Mukunda Das Road, Ashoknagar, Dumdum, North 24 Parganas. Two days ago, she went to the mountains with her friends. They went to Sandakphu after breaking down from Darjeeling. After returning from there on Tuesday, she stayed in Tungling at night. Ankita went to sleep that night. Then she suddenly fell ill at midnight. Her friends brought her to the Sukhiyapokhari Block Primary Health Center. Since the young woman’s condition was critical, the doctors referred her to the Darjeeling District Hospital. When she was taken there, the doctor on duty declared Ankita dead. However, the exact cause of death is not yet known. The body has been sent to the Darjeeling District Hospital for autopsy. In this regard, Darjeeling Superintendent of Police Praveen Prakash said, “A tourist has died. The family has been contacted. The cause of death will be known after the autopsy.” In this regard, Darjeeling Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Richard Lepcha said, “A tourist has died while visiting Sandakphu. All arrangements will be made by the administration.” Incidentally, a tourist from Bhabanipur, Kolkata, died while visiting Sandakphu at the end of November. Earlier, on May 26 this year, a 29-year-old tourist from Uttar Dinajpur also died in a similar manner. In October 2022, an Israeli tourist went trekking from Manebhajan to Sandakphu. He died in his sleep after sleeping in a tent at night. The highest mountain peak in West Bengal is located in Darjeeling district at an altitude of about 11,950 feet above sea level. The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) administration is taking strict action after repeated deaths of tourists there. Strict rules are being implemented for tourists from December. The health check-up of tourists will be done first in Mane Bhanjan. Only after passing the test will the tourists be given permission to go to Sandakphu from there. However, even before this system is implemented, the tourism industry is worried about the death of a tourist again.
