Prime Minister Narendra Modi today officially launched the production of Suzuki’s first global strategic Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the e VITARA, at a ceremony in Hansalpur, Gujarat. This milestone positions India as Suzuki’s global manufacturing hub for electric vehicles.

The “Made-in-India” e VITARA will be exported to more than a hundred countries, including technologically advanced markets such as Europe and Japan. This move is a major step in fulfilling the “Make in India, Make for the World” vision.

In a related development, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the local production of hybrid battery electrodes at a new plant, a joint venture between Suzuki, Toshiba, and Denso. This initiative is a major boost to India’s burgeoning battery ecosystem, ensuring that over 80% of the battery value will now be manufactured domestically
