West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sent over 500 teams from other states to West Bengal. According to Banerjee, these teams have been deployed with the purpose of conducting a survey of voters whose names may have been omitted from the electoral rolls.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader’s claim comes amid ongoing political tensions between her party and the BJP in the state. Banerjee has frequently accused the BJP of attempting to influence the political landscape in West Bengal through various means, and this latest allegation adds to her list of grievances.
The BJP has yet to respond to the chief minister’s specific claim. However, the use of party workers from other states for election-related activities is not uncommon in Indian politics, though the scale alleged by Banerjee is significant. The purpose of such surveys is often to identify and register eligible voters who may have been left off the lists, a process that both major political parties in India engage in.
