Recently, attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh have increased significantly. At the same time, anti-India sentiment has also increased significantly. The Indian flag is being disrespected in many places. In this situation, there is a meeting at the level of foreign secretaries between India and Bangladesh on Monday. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is going to Dhaka to attend the meeting. Before that, Khaleda Zia’s party BNP took out a procession towards the Indian embassy in Dhaka on Sunday. Khaleda is known as the arch enemy of the recently ousted Sheikh Hasina. After the fall of Hasina’s government, the BNP led by former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who was recently released from prison, has emerged as the main force in Bangladesh. In this program on Sunday, the procession started in front of the party’s central office in Naya Paltan, Dhaka. Members of three BNP organizations were present in the procession. Since the police had already received news of the procession, the security of the Indian embassy was tightened considerably. However, the Bangladesh police stopped the procession before it reached the Indian embassy. The BNP procession was stopped by barricading near Rampura. From there, a delegation went to the Indian embassy and submitted a memorandum.
Incidentally, attacks on minorities in that country have increased significantly after the fall of the Hasina government. A few days ago, the police arrested monk Chinmayakrishna Das on charges of sedition. Since then, tensions have arisen between India and Bangladesh. India has repeatedly requested the caretaker government of Bangladesh to ensure the security of minorities in that country. It has also been asked to ensure the legal rights of Chinmayakrishna. However, Bangladesh did not accept India’s request. They claim that minorities in that country are safe.
In this situation, the BNP memorandum submitted to the Indian embassy on Sunday is considered quite significant. It is learned that in the memorandum submitted, they also consider the recent situation of tension between the two countries to be ‘unfriendly’. Former Prime Minister Hasina has taken refuge in India after leaving Bangladesh. BNP has also expressed dissatisfaction with that. They claim that Hasina is trying to destabilize the situation in Bangladesh from the ‘safe haven’ of India. Khaleda’s party claims that the people of Bangladesh are not taking this positively. In a memorandum submitted to the Indian embassy, the BNP said that the relations between the two countries will be strengthened on the basis of equality, mutual trust, faith and respect. The highways of Dhaka were practically blocked due to the procession on Sunday. The procession lasted for about an hour from Naya Paltan to Rampura Bridge.
