Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan stated that the nature of modern warfare in urban environments may require a new approach, including the “masked use of force” by small teams and the deployment of advanced technology.
Speaking at an event in Mhow, General Chauhan highlighted the unique challenges of fighting in densely populated areas. “Maybe there is a requirement of masked use of force, small teams to work through that urban environment,” he said.
The CDS also emphasized the need for high-tech solutions to succeed in such scenarios. “You require technology like see-through detection radars, etc.,” he added, underscoring the military’s focus on acquiring and developing cutting-edge equipment to enhance its operational capabilities in complex environments.
General Chauhan’s remarks suggest a shift in military doctrine toward more agile and technologically-driven operations, recognizing the changing landscape of modern conflict.
