In a significant development during the recent Atlantic Trident 25 multinational military exercise in Finland, a French Rafale fighter jet successfully "locked on" and recorded a "kill" against a US F-35 stealth fighter.
This simulated victory suggests a successful breach of the F-35's stealth-focused defenses in a dogfight scenario.

During the exercise, the Rafale pilot’s advanced Infrared Search and Track (IRST) system was able to detect and lock onto the F-35, a capability that is crucial for engaging stealth aircraft that are designed to evade radar. The F-35, known for its low-observability and advanced sensor fusion, is considered one of the world’s most capable fighter jets.

This simulated kill is being hailed as a major win for the Rafale, highlighting the effectiveness of its non-radar-based targeting systems. While the F-35 is built for air superiority, the incident underscores the effectiveness of modern IRST technology in challenging stealth capabilities. The results of the exercise are likely to spark further discussion about the future of air combat and the balance between stealth and counter-stealth technologies.
