Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has invoked the ancient Indian strategist Chanakya, stating that his principles of national security remain highly relevant today.
In a recent statement, General Chauhan quoted the ancient philosopher and strategist, saying, “The statement of the fundamental strategic thinker Chanakya is still relevant today. National security involves three things—the land of the nation, the ideology of the country, and the people.”
The CDS’s comments highlight a holistic view of national security that goes beyond mere military strength. He emphasized that a nation’s security is intrinsically linked to its territorial integrity, the core principles and values it upholds, and the well-being and loyalty of its citizens.
General Chauhan’s remarks underscore the importance of integrating traditional Indian strategic thought into modern defense and security planning, emphasizing a comprehensive approach that includes not just military power but also ideological and social cohesion.
