Assam Government to Scrutinize Land Transfer Applications Between Different Religions

Bangobarta Bureau, Guwahati

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the state government will now scrutinize all applications for land transfers between individuals of different religious backgrounds.

Speaking to the media, Sarma stated that the decision was made to prevent illegal land acquisition and to ensure demographic stability in the region. He emphasized that while a blanket ban is not in place, each case would be carefully examined to prevent any exploitative or fraudulent transactions. The move has drawn mixed reactions, with some supporting the initiative to protect indigenous land rights, while others express concern over potential discrimination.
