Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, citing a statement by a close Gandhi family aide, Syeda Hameed, as evidence that a Congress government would open the doors to Bangladeshi infiltrators.
Speaking to the media, Sarma claimed that Hameed’s statement, which was not specified, made one thing clear: “If the Congress comes to power in Assam, then Bangladeshi infiltrators will also come with them.”
Sarma’s remarks are part of his long-standing political narrative against illegal immigration, a major and sensitive issue in Assam. He has consistently accused the Congress of being lenient on the matter for vote-bank politics. The Chief Minister’s statement aims to reinforce his party’s commitment to protecting the state’s indigenous population and to frame the opposition as a threat to that security.
