A 50-year-old man, believed to be “mentally ill”, has committed a bizarre crime. He stole an ambulance from Hyderabad’s Hayat Nagar on Saturday. Police said he was arrested after a chase of about 100 km. The stolen ambulance belonged to the ‘108’ service. The man had stolen it from a hospital in the morning and was driving it on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway with the siren blaring. During the chase, an assistant sub-inspector was injured when the ambulance hit a police vehicle in Chitiala. He has been admitted to the hospital, police said.
